So, having arrived at Aston Old E's well in advance of kick off I found a lovely day ahead of me with beautiful sunshine and a nice looking pitch ahead of me. Then everyone else turned up....
Glum faces were aplenty as it transpired a series of drop outs that morning ahd left us with a much depleted side and only 14 men. Aston were very quick to help out and lent us a sub to get us upto 15, thank you, and after some brief warm up routines it dawned us that despite that morning we had actually come away with not a bad side - even with Emir at 10.
Seeing the Aston boys rock up, quite big and scary looking, we knew we were in for a long afternoon - 2nd team or not the club are two leagues up and they seemed intent on showing us this. It didn't work.
Harborne did what we do best and fronted up all over the park, to not only match their physical forwards, but run amok with our wily backs.
I've got to ne honest I can;t go into too much detail on the scores as its all a distant memory now but -
Ben (captain of the day) got one from a rolling maul off a lineout.
Chib got one from the wing with a deft show and go plus spinny thing that put him into space.
Duick got one by not running straight.
Anthony, in his preferred position of prop, pinched one after letting the winger do all the work and simply being there (support is everything I suppose).
Tom, not Tim, touched down on the wing by running a straight line.
Tim from centre got two.
Will, I think, got two from an intercept/steal and then a quick lineout
Tim missed all his kicks (but he did score 2 tries so fair play) and Emir got 3 from drop goals - not bad.
I think thats all of them. Good work from all in a solid D, nicking (and if not kicking through) at scrum times, easy lineouts (they didn't compete) and a rash opposition 10 (flying up on Emir to free runners outside) aided us a plenty.
Well done to all, not one person stepped back or hung back and it was a nice win prior to the Vase game this weekend.
Also, thanks to Adam from Aston Old E's who stopped us from playing with 14, except that 10mins he got sin binned!
MOM = Ben (stepping in late as captain, rallying us all and a generally good game)
DOD - Duick (not running straight despite going on about at training)
If I do have any details wrong please feel free to write the next report ;-)
